Grade 10 - 12 Field Trip to Canadian Light Source and Western College of Veterinary Medicine

Grade 10 - 12 Science students got a pretty cool experience when they got to visit Canada's only synchrotron! After learning how it is used to solve some of the toughest challenges in health, agriculture and the enironment, they walked across the University of Saskatchewan campus to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine where they viewed samples under microscopes and got some insight into Vet Med.

The Canadian Light Source (CLS) is one of the largest science projects in Canada’s history. The facility speeds up electrons to produce intensely bright synchrotron light that helps scientists study materials at a molecular level. Over 1,000 researchers from around the world use the CLS every year.

The Western College of Veterinary Medicine has more than 500 undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at the internationally-recognized veterinary college that includes a veterinary medical centre, a provincial diagnostic laboratory and large-scale research facilities. Sask DLC students got to learn about kidney function and examine particles under microscopes.

Saskatchewan Distance Learning Centre provides Kindergarten to Grade 12 courses to Saskatchewan students who choose to study online. We empower students and families to choose the learning environment that works best for them, while supporting their graduation plan.
